Air & Water Quality

Almost half of the world's countries have water shortages that threaten health and economies. High energy costs limit the ability of these countries to increase their water supplies by traditional means of transport or purification. Water and energy are inextricably linked in the areas of water quality, industrial usage, urban usage, and wastewater.

There are treatment and conservation alternatives that can help increase water supply and reduce water and energy demand. Berkeley Lab provides clients throughout the world with our expertise in hydrogeology and reservoir dynamics, microbial ecology and environmental engineering, probabilistic cost-effectiveness analysis, and assessment of water- and energy-efficient technologies.
